After arriving in Kyoto with no hotel reservations, all the hotels and ryokan were at capacity. As one of the final alternatives, I decided to have a look inside this short (a few hours) or long stay (one night) hotel. The accommodations were conveniently located in Kyoto’s ‘red light’ district.
Here’s how the system works. When you enter the hotel, there are no visible employees. Guests secure their rooms at these automated stations, showing which rooms are available, and specifying the price for a short, or long stay. You get the idea.

That’s really pretty amazing. I can’t even imagine something like this taking hold here. People here tend to be needy and complain a lot. Hard to complain to a machine!
Reread this one bro, people aren’t looking for customer service in this hotel!
I got that upon reading it a second time. However, your lack of specification about stay length led to the confusion. I was thinking days/week and you meant minutes/hours. Specification is needed here! Seriously though, my mind is burnt from school and work so I claim fatigue.
